The Certosa di San Martino is a former monastery complex located on the Vomero hill in Naples, Italy. Built in the 14th century and later expanded in the 17th century, it is one of the finest examples of Neapolitan Baroque architecture. Originally founded by Charles of Anjou, Duke of Calabria, it served as a Carthusian monastery. Today, it houses the National Museum of San Martino, which displays art, historical artifacts, and a famous collection of nativity scenes (presepi). The complex also offers panoramic views of Naples and the Bay of Naples.
Itinerary
Head to the Central Funicular: Start from the center of Naples and make your way to Piazza Vanvitelli to catch the funicular that will take you up to the Vomero district.
Ascend to Vomero: Ride the funicular and, once you arrive in Vomero, follow the signs to the Certosa di San Martino—a must-visit site in the area.
Reach the Certosa di San Martino: From the funicular stop, continue on foot or take a short bus ride to get to the Certosa, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Naples and visit the museum.
